Two-Time U.S. Open Champion Reed Set to Defend Title

AURORA, Ill. (August 12, 2005) – Clear Channel Entertainment’s Motor Sports division announced today that former THQ AMA Supercross Series champion Chad Reed, of Menifee, Calif., is confirmed to race the 2005 U.S. Open at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas October 7-9.

“The U.S. Open has treated me well,” said Reed. “Hopefully, this year won’t be any different than the previous two. I’m ready for a win and the big prize money.”

The eighth-annual U.S. Open, which will broadcast nationally on NBC for the second consecutive season, features the world’s top motocross racers competing for the world’s largest single race purse.

The prestigious invitation list includes four-time supercross champion and two-time U.S. Open champion Ricky Carmichael (Suzuki); two-time defending U.S. Open champion Chad Reed (Yamaha); two-time 125cc regional supercross champion James Stewart (Kawasaki); former US Open champion Mike LaRocco; 125cc regional supercross champion and action sports star Travis Pastrana (Suzuki). Racers will compete inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena October 7-8 on a technical course built with some 300 truckloads of dirt.

Carmichael clinches AMA Motocross title
DELMONT, Pa. (AP) — Ricky Carmichael clinched his sixth straight AMA 250cc Motocross Championship with a win at Steel City Raceway on Sunday.
"We don't have long careers in this sport and I'm just trying to win as much as I can while I can," said Ricky Carmichael after clinching his 6th straight championship.

The 25-year-old Floridian won his 26th consecutive motocross national. If Carmichael wins the series finale next Sunday in San Bernardino, Calif., he will be the first rider to go undefeated in three seasons.

Carmichael led every lap of both motos on his Makita Suzuki and was never seriously challenged. Hondas Kevin Windham — who made the race after weathering Hurricane Katrina from his home in Centreville, Miss. — finished second and Frenchman David Vuillemin was third on a Yamaha.

"When I signed with Suzuki I really didn't expect to have the kind of year I've had," said Carmichael, who gave Suzuki its first AMA 250cc Motocross Championship since 1999.

"I find it hard to believe myself sometimes. We don't have long careers in this sport and I'm just trying to win as much as I can while I can."

Carmichael is the most dominant rider ever in American motocross. This years championship marked his 13th AMA national title. In addition to his now six AMA 250cc Motocross Championships, Carmichael also earned three national championships in 125cc motocross and four in stadium motocross.

Broc Hepler, from nearby Kittanning, won the 125cc class for his second national victory.

yeah bubba kinda hurt reeds chances...but he was basically chasing his tale from the start of the season after the first anehiem race.
