sounds to me like you need to rebuild your carbueretor since being as this is an old bike, it maybe hasnt been cleaned or has been a while since it has.....just spend the relatively small amount to rebuild the carb and that should keep the bike happy for a long time....also when rebuilding the carb and starting it again, use plain fuel ONLY no additives, a lot of people think that the additives like the carb cleaners and stuff in your gas help...but a lot of the time for getting it running again you are better off with just plain gas and make it fresh right out of the pmp too, and dont forget to change the oil while youre at the carb
do this first, and then tell me what happens, and hopefully that should clear everything up for you

My guess is it could be the needle and seat, or possibly when you were tweeking with it you messed up the float, there are so many things that can go wrong with a bike that you just have to take the time to find whats wrong.

I couldnt tell ya offhand, but a new carb is like $300 or so the last time i looked. You will probably have to get the parts or whatever you need through your dealer i bet.

if i was you i would spend the money to get the quality stuff....a rebuild kit could run you anywhere from $20-50 on most of the engines we rebuild a full rebuild kit is around $34.
