cleen the bike top to botom, take the gas out of it and drop the oil from the tranny. put new oil in the transmison and put a litle oil in the hole for the spark plug and turn it over once to coat the cilinder. make sure you get all the fule out of the carb or it can make sluge in it over the winter. store it some place dry up on a stand.

Too add to what Shakes said....take the chain off and put it in a bag...clean the air filter good...clean the carb, and just go over the bike during the wintertime. What I always did with my 80 is I brought it down to my basement...heated all winter and could work on it all winter so it worked out real nice. The 250F don't exactly fit down the stairs i wouldnt guess...haha

Yeah thats ment for street bikes mostly....here is a good lesson...don't add fuel additives to your dirtbike...it will not help it, it will only hurt it. All those additives like octane boost and stuff only dirty engine deposits and don't help.

A bike is a bike and they all nead the same basic winter maintenance.

A YZ250F and a Harley are on way different maintenance schedule.

I have to disagree with you on this one. Different maintenance schedules during the summer - yes, but not that much different when prepping the bike for winter.
What type of things would be so different on a dirt bike then a street bike when prepping for winter storage.

More things on dirtbikes are pickier...like apart of my winterizing is taking it apart and greasing everything and making sure nothing is cracked, broken, stressed, or worn out.

Pretty weak guys.
If you had a e-start bike would you be dumbfounded what to with the battery? Gas is simple, if a plastic drain it, otherwise keep 'er filled.
On a street bike wouldn't you make sure everything was lubed and check bearings and look for any damage to the bike?

Not some people. And that was the point of this topic is because she wanted to learn a few things about proper mx bike winterization. But that's why I posted that link / list. It gives you a good overview of what to do. If you want to know specifically how to...say...adjust and lube your throttle cable, then I sugget getting a shop manual and go through that. If you want to get real anal about stuff, then get MX588 over to help ;D

That may so, but then again I have a 10yr old dirt bike that runs better then new, so I must be doing something right.
BTW, when MX588 shows up be prepared to lose your toothbrush because you will be on your hands and knees scrubbing the bottom of your engine. This is crucial for prepping your bike for winter.
